About the Pumping Marvellous University

Pumping Marvellous

We offer support to help people live well with heart failure.

The Pumping Marvellous Foundation (PMF) is the UK’s patient-led Heart Failure charity. Founded by a heart failure patient whose experiences whilst rehabilitating, shaped the Foundation’s goals and principles of a patient-centric charity focused on improved patient outcomes.

There is evidence that people with heart failure may gain improvement in their symptoms and wellbeing because of attending heart failure cardiac rehabilitation. These are usually formal exercise and educational classes designed for patients with heart failure. Our patients tell us how beneficial cardiac rehabilitation has been to them. If you have not been referred to cardiac rehabilitation, please ask your heart failure team to refer you. In some areas cardiac rehabilitation is not available or accessible. Working alongside Cardiac Rehabilitation Physiologists, Consultant Cardiologists, Heart Failure Nurse Specialists and Primary Care GP’s and Nurses we have developed a platform to make Cardiac Rehabilitation accessible for all.

HELPING YOU UNDERSTAND

Heart failure cardiac rehabilitation will help you to understand your condition and how to live well with heart failure. The programmes are designed to help your heart to function better, along with other muscles in your body. Patients also say that it makes them feel more positive and in control of their condition.

ACCESS AND WHERE

Many centres offer a variety of services. Some are based in the hospital, but others are out in the community, at home or virtual. Talk to your cardiac rehabilitation team if you do not wish to attend a formal class. They will be able to give you guidance on what options are available to you. We offer a platform that helps you complete cardiac rehabilitation in your own home.

WHY is it important?

We believe in working with you and getting to the crux of some of the challenges of living well with heart failure. Cardiac rehabilitation can be the start of a new chapter. There is plenty of evidence out there that demonstrates how good it is for people living with the condition. See it as another treatment you can enjoy.

Rates of how many heart failure patients are offered cardiac rehabilitation is very low and this is why you should persist with your heart failure team to assess you for a programme if available. There are many examples of patients like you undertaking a cardiac rehabilitation programme which has made their quality of life better. Not only a healthier lifestyle in tune with their condition but also more energy and a better capacity to exercise. That’s like completing some of the normal tasks that were such a challenge before, climbing the stairs, walking the dog or going to the shops.
